Govt steps in to help 8 siblings orphaned by Covid-19

It has also offered a job and hostel accomodation to one of the siblings.
The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), meanwhile, has opened education bank accounts for them and contributed RM500 to each sibling.
This was among the slew of aid announced by Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob yesterday.
He had visited 19-year-old Nazurah Nabilah Yajeed and her brothers and sisters at their Rawang home along with Higher Education Minister Noraini Ahmad, Health Minister Dr Adham Baba and Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) CEO Saipolyazan M Yusof.
“Because Nazurah studies at Politeknik Mersing, (higher education minister) Noraini has agreed to transfer her to Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah in Behrang, Perak so she is nearer to her other siblings.
“I will also meet with Human Resource Minister M Saravanan to discuss Social Security Organisation compensation for their late mother,” Ismail Sabri told the media during his visit.
Furthermore, the Social Welfare Organisation will offer RM150 to each sibling who is above seven years old, RM200 to those aged six and below along with a food basket worth RM950.
LZS will offer RM650 to help with monthly rental expenses beginning at the end of this year. It will also offer a one-off contribution of RM650 comprising cash, food baskets and education aid.
Ismail Sabri, who is deputy prime minister, added that the family will receive RM5,000 from the National Disaster Management Agency’s (Nadma) as part of its special Covid-19 death management assistance programme.
He further requested Adham to compile a list of children who had been orphaned by Covid-19 so that aid could be extended to them.
Malaysiakini previously reported that Nazurah and her siblings lost both their parents within a span of three days.
They now live with their aunt, who is not working and had previously tested positive for Covid-19 herself.
