Faizal Azumu's salary as ex-PM's advisor revealed in Dewan Rakyat

Details of Ahmad Faizal Azumu's (PN-Tambun) income during his short stint as the special advisor to former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin has been revealed in the Dewan Rakyat. 

In a parliamentary reply yesterday, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Faizal (above) was paid a pro-rata percentage of his monthly income of RM27,227.20 and a replacement for termination of service notice with one month's salary.

"The position does not involve the payment of pension," he said, responding to Lim Lip Eng (Harapan-Kepong).

Faizal's appointment as a special advisor was announced on Aug 5. However, Muhyiddin resigned as prime minister on Aug 16 after 15 Umno MPs withdrew their support for him.

Ismail Sabri said Faizal was entrusted to advise the then-prime minister on matters related to community communications.

"He was entrusted to create close ties between the government and community leaders, improve the people's understanding of government policies through effective communication channels, as well as improve the government delivery system from the socio-economic aspects," Ismail Sabri added. 

Lim had asked the prime minister to state the total salary received by the Tambun MP as a special advisor to Muhyiddin, with ministerial rank, during his short term.

Faizal was later made youth and sports minister in Ismail Sabri's administration.

Last December, Faizal, who is the Bersatu deputy president, was removed as Perak menteri besar after losing a motion of confidence vote tabled against him in the State Legislative Assembly.

Of the 59 ballots cast, only 10 were in support of Faizal.
