KJ: No plans to build permanent Covid-19 hospitals

“For now, we will maintain the full Covid-19 hospitals, especially at the state level until we can handle the spread of the pandemic better.
“And in terms of planning, I can’t say how long because we hope with the decrease in hospitalisations from Covid-19 cases, more hybrid hospitals – where parts of their wards were used to treat Covid-19 – can revert to normal hospitals,” Khairy said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.
The Health Ministry converted a number of government hospitals to full Covid-19 hospitals as well as hybrid hospitals which treat both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients.
Khairy also revealed that Putrajaya spent RM593 million since 2020 on additional medical equipment such as Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and ventilators.
They have also received RM148 million in contributions, he added.
Responding to a separate question from Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh (PN-Sabak Bernam), Khairy said there are 209 Covid-19 Assessment Centres (CACs) nationwide, but this is subject to changes based on the pandemic situation.
When asked if the CACs are appointment-based or open to walk-ins, Khairy said several states with a decreasing trend in daily cases have opened up walk-ins at their CACs, including Selangor.
“States will accept walk-ins when the number of cases can be handled without causing congestion (at the CACs),” he added.
