Anwar denies meeting state governor on 'Malacca Move'

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has denied reports speculating a meeting between him and Malacca governor Mohd Ali Rustam over an alleged move to change the state government.

Speaking to reporters after a walkabout at Pantai Teluk Kemang in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, the Pakatan Harapan leader said he did not receive any invitation for an audience with Ali.

"There was news claiming I had requested to have an audience. No.

"Also there has yet to be a request for me to meet with the governor," said the Port Dickson MP.

A well-placed PKR source yesterday told Malaysiakini that the "Malacca Move" rocking the state government was not initiated by Harapan. 

Instead, the source said it was an internal conflict in the ruling state coalition.

Quizzed to confirm attempts to change state government under Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali, Anwar merely said, "that you have to ask Malacca".

"People informed (me) but there is nothing concrete.

"I just listened to reports. There is nothing concrete as far as I'm concerned," he added.

The PKR source also confirmed with Malaysiakini that Anwar had met with the coalition's 11 Malacca assemblypersons in Petaling Jaya, Selangor on Thursday night.

This follows simmering unrest said to be ongoing for two weeks that involved at least four assemblypersons who are dissatisfied with Sulaiman.

Speculation is rife that the quartet consists of former Malacca chief minister Idris Haron (Umno-Sungai Udang), Nor Azman Hassan (Umno-Pantai Kundor), Noor Effendi Ahmad (Bersatu-Telok Mas), and Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Independent-Pengkalan Batu).

Noor Effendi and Norhizam were previously with Harapan. Their defection helped contribute to the coalition's downfall in Malacca.
