COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 6,630 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,420,222.

The new cases were surpassed by 7,630 recoveries which will help push down the number of active cases.

  • Patients in ICU: 653
  • Intubated: 322

The number of people requiring hospitalisation for Covid-19 is dropping at the national level, down 11 percent over the past week.

However, hospital admissions in some states are on the rise, such as Kuala Lumpur (+13 percent) and Sarawak (+14.8 percent), according to the CovidNow website.

Overall, the number of Covid-19 cases is in decline. The R-naught as of yesterday was 0.86. An R-naught of below 1.00 is desirable because it suggests that the spread of Covid-19 is slowing down.

Only Kuala Lumpur has an R-naught of above 1.00.

Beginning Oct 9, the Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Oct 21), where 6,210 new cases were reported, is as follow:
