'Karen' trying to enter Dior store in KLCC without mask fined RM3k

A woman – whose attempt to enter luxury fashion store Dior in the KLCC shopping mall without wearing a mask had gone viral on social media – has been fined RM3,000 for violating SOPs.

Dang Wangi district police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the police have fined her over two wrongdoings for RM1,500 each under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas)(National Recovery Plan) Regulations.

“The first wrongdoing was not complying with the Health director-general’s orders when failing to check-in to a premise using the MySejahtera application in an area with wide Internet coverage.

“The second wrongdoing is not complying with the Health director-general’s orders when failing to wear a mask inside a premise,” Noor Dellhan said in a statement today.

On Oct 27, a posting on Twitter containing a video clip of the woman had gone viral as it showed her raising her voice after being denied entry into the Dior store at KLCC for not wearing a mask.

Internet users have since nicknamed the woman ‘Karen’, which is a term often used on social media to refer to entitled white women who wield their privilege to their benefit.

In the video clip, the woman claimed the store’s staff had pushed her, which the staff immediately denied.

The woman can also be heard saying “You can’t stop me, it’s a free country. You don’t own the shop”.

Soon after the first video went viral, another video clip of a woman attempting to enter a shopping mall in Bangsar, KL without a mask also went viral.

Police have since confirmed that it is the same woman in both videos.
