Redzuan denies asking Bersatu leaders to resign, says statement fake

Alor Gajah MP Mohd Redzuan Mohd Yusof (above) has denied issuing a statement appealing for the resignation of Bersatu’s leaders over the party’s defeat in the Malacca state elections.

Redzuan, who is also a Bersatu supreme council member, claimed that the statement in question - which was circulated on social media - is fake.

“There was a viral statement that was spread on social media on how Perikatan Nasional’s defeat in Malacca should be borne by three individuals which used my name.

“I vehemently deny that the statement was made by me,” said Redzuan.

“The defamatory statement is the work of desperate and frustrated parties who possess the malicious intent of splitting Bersatu’s leadership,” he said in a statement on Monday.

According to Sinar Harian, the three party leaders named in the statement include Bersatu president and former premier Muhyiddin Yassin, party sec-gen Hamzah Zainudin, and women’s wing vice-chairperson Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.

Redzuan’s statement comes after PN’s defeat in the Malacca state election on Nov 20.

In total, BN had won with two-thirds of the state’s seats (21 seats) - 18 Umno, two MCA, and one MIC - while Harapan won five seats.

PN, on the other hand, managed to secure two seats thanks to Bersatu, while its two other component parties PAS and Gerakan failed to win any seats.

It was also reported that the false statement had claimed that PN's humiliating defeat was a signal that the party’s current strategies were not well-received by the rakyat.

“PN must have a leader with a big heart, including a willingness to return to work with Harapan or BN.

“Using Muhyiddin as a ‘poster boy’ is a big failure (and) announcing a party-hopping MP as a candidate for chief minister is a foolish mistake made by PN,” said the statement.
