Bersatu's Ali Biju defends Krian as indie, says constituents want him

Ali, 52, is a two-term assemblyperson and is currently the deputy minister for energy and natural resources at the federal level.
He is a member of Bersatu, which in turn is a component of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
Speaking to the media after filing his nomination papers, Ali said he decided to contest upon the request of his constituents.
Responding to the question on Bersatu's stand regarding the matter, Ali said he will discuss it with party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
"The Krian constituency is unique, the people prioritise personalities compared to the parties the person represents,” he added, according to Utusan Borneo.
Muhyiddin, who is also PN chairperson, previously announced that the coalition will not participate in the election to respect the wishes of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leadership.
Prior to joining Bersatu, Ali was with PKR. He was one of those involved in the Sheraton Move which led to the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.
Ali's challengers in Krian include novice Friday Belik from the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), a component of the incumbent ruling coalition GPS.
Ali is one of two candidates from parties, at the time of writing, which is allied with GPS at the federal level.
The other candidate is Mohammad Arifiriazul Paijo from PAS who was fielded for Beting Maro.
