Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz has issued a friendly reminder to the public to reject any unsolicited advances from an individual claiming to hold his position.
Responding to news reports, Zafrul quipped that the reminder is also dedicated to his wife.
"If after this there is anyone else who pretended to be the finance minister promising love, please reject them outright.
"My heart is taken and I have no interest to look for No 2. This message is also dedicated to my wife," Zafrul said in a Facebook post.
Zafrul said he was shocked to read recent news reports of a 59-year-old kindergarten teacher who lost RM4,200 to false promises by an individual claiming to be the finance minister.
"I urge all out there to be careful of the various scams.
"Verify with the authorities if there are any suspicious activities. Don't easily fall for sweet promises by unknown individuals," he said.
According to Malay daily Kosmo, police revealed the suspect had used the name 'Tengku Zafrul' on Facebook and introduced himself as the finance minister.
The suspect also contacted the victim via WhatsApp.
