COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported a total of 57 new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Dec 21), bringing the cumulative death toll to 31,192.
From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 8.77 percent or five died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.
Penang and Selangor recorded the highest number of new deaths at nine, each making up 15.7 percent of the newly reported fatalities.
The remaining deaths were in Perak (7), Kuala Lumpur (6), Terengganu (6), Negeri Sembilan (5), Kedah (4), Kelantan (4), Johor (2), Pahang (2), Sabah (2) and Perlis (1).
No new deaths were reported in Malacca, Sarawak, Labuan and Putrajaya.
Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 946 deaths per one million population, which is the fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.
