NSC chair blame-game: Focus on flood victims first, says Gobind

“I think we should focus on the rakyat’s crisis right now. Everyone should work together to ensure that the rakyat’s issues can be resolved as soon as possible. That is what we should be focusing on right now.
“Like in Parliament, I always say that even if we are from different political backgrounds, I feel, looking at the issues in front of us, we should be allowed to debate, discuss and decide on matters that need to be decided on that day,” he said.
Gobind said this when asked to comment on Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Minister Noh Omar's chiding of Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari for not understanding the structure of the National Security Council (NSC).
Amirudin said on Tuesday (Dec 21) that he has resumed the post of state NSC chief and blamed the slow flood response in Selangor on him not being appointed to the post much earlier.
Noh panned Amirudin, saying that NSC Orders 1 and 20, on security and disaster management, meant there were two separate committees.
Noh, the Tanjung Karang MP, said he is still the state NSC chief and oversees security affairs, while the post that Amirudin took over is the chair of another committee that specifically handles disaster management.
Speaking further on who is actually responsible for Selangor’s NSC, Gobind said they are still collecting more information and will only comment on the matter after confirmation.
“I will comment on that after I get the facts, information, as well as confirmation,” said Gobind.
Earlier, Gobind, who is the Puchong MP, and former senator R Suresh Singh, went to survey the areas affected by the flood in several villages under the Puchong constituency, including Kampung Seri Andalas in Puchong, Selangor.
Food distributed to flood victims
They went to observe cleaning work that started on Tuesday and distributed food and other basic necessities to the flood victims in the area. They delivered 1,000 packages of food.
This is the third time the Puchong MP has gone to the ground to provide aid to about 12,000 affected families in the area, with an estimated cost of almost RM200,000.
Gobind said his people were in the midst of mobilising to deal with the debris and rubbish strewn all over the roads and entrances to people’s houses.
He added that they are also waiting for approval for a new site to move the rubbish, as the dumping site in Dengkil has already reached its maximum capacity.
“I have been informed that the dumping site in Dengkil is already full and there are still 200 lorries that have not removed their rubbish yet and we are waiting for approval for a new dumping site,” he said.
Gobind added that if there are flood victims in need who are not receiving help, they can contact his office or the village head of the area.
