Reopening of government schools for the third semester scheduled for Jan 2 and 3, 2022 is now postponed to the week after, said Education Minister Radzi Jidin.
The decision was made after the Education Ministry considered the situation that many parents, students and teachers are facing due to the flooding in many states.
Thus, Radzi (above) said, schools located in Group A states will start their third semester for the 2021/2022 session on Sunday (Jan 9), while those in Group B will reopen on Monday (Jan 10).
"It was announced earlier that the school session for Semester 3 2021/2022 will start this Jan 2 for Group A and Jan 3 for Group B states.
"However, considering the flood situation in the country that has affected many students, parents and teachers, either directly or indirectly, and also that there are schools which are either being used as temporary flood relief shelters or badly affected by the flood, the ministry has reached a decision to postpone the reopening for a week," he said in a video message on Facebook this afternoon.
Group A states are those which start their week on Sunday, namely Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, while the other states that start their week on Monday fall under Group B.
According to Radzi, the postponement is also meant to give more time for those affected by the flood to prepare for the schooling session.
