A leadership transition in DAP's central executive committee (CEC) will take place as Lim Guan Eng, who is in his third and final term as secretary-general, is set to relinquish the post he’s been holding for 18 years.
In a statement today, DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke said the party's CEC, which met on Jan 13, decided that the national congress will be held at the IDCC Convention Centre in Shah Alam on March 20.
"The postponement of the national congress had previously been allowed by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) due to various restrictions on interstate movement due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"The date set is in line with the advice from the ROS for the national congress to be held before March 31," Loke said.
The physical attendance of the delegates is required for the purpose of voting for the new central executive committee, said the Seremban MP.
Loke is widely seen as a favourite choice to replace Guan Eng and it is an open secret that he was groomed to take over the party leadership.
DAP had postponed its national congress and party election which was initially slated for June 20 last year due to the pandemic.
