YOURSAY | Protest crackdown a repeat of 1MDB clampdown

YOURSAY | ‘Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.’

COMMENT | Hundreds of youths spook Azam Baki and Ismail Sabri

ScarletSwan2691: Great article, Malaysiakini columnist S Thayaparan. The people of Malaysia have the right to free speech and the right to protest when the government allows this type of dishonesty and corruption to continue.

Malaysia is a rich country with vast resources but the wealth is not being used to build much-needed infrastructure. It goes to the people in power who seem to have all the wealth at their disposal and, occasionally, they give some goodies to voters to make sure they vote for them.

I absolutely think the young generation of Malaysia knows that the time is right to put an end to this style of government regardless of who is in power. Corruption has to be crushed.

If they elect a government that is for the people as opposed to a government for their own self-interests, the people would be entitled to state-assisted benefits.

Malaysia is still in the grip of its worst crisis in history. The country needs to start the process of recovery. But yet, we are still battling internal troubles like corruption and dishonesty at the highest levels.

I say young people of Malaysia, stand up against those who prevent you from exercising your right to free speech. You are the next generation. Go do what the last generation did not do. Stand up and be heard!

Justice: Young leaders have become prime ministers in a number of countries and gotten rid of the old guards and elite politicians who overstayed their welcome.

Now is the time for our youths to unite and come forward to clean up our country of the parasites and the mess they created.

Whoever leads this political change should find it quite easy to identify and round up most, if not all, of the crooks.

Just make MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki talk and you will know them all - what they did and where they stashed all their loot.

OCT: Malaysia is in dire straits, marred by one bad news after another. Corruption has reached all levels of government. The government has no shame, integrity, and is dropping in the global anti-corruption rankings.

Politicians in Malaysia care not about governance but how to stay in power and remain rich not through their own merits but corrupt practices.

A former prime minister who allegedly stole billions of ringgit and became a convicted felon can go around with a police escort, travel overseas, and receive allowances, perks and entitlement.

Then there was a senior police officer who had almost a million ringgit forfeited by Australia and yet was cleared by an internal inquiry.

Most recently is Azam’s case who, as the head of the MACC, was implicated for wrongdoing and nobody dares to penalise him.

The rakyat have even seen corruption cases involving VVIPs being dropped for no good reason.

All these are caused by one incompetent and useless person. He is none other than Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob himself.

When the PM is not selected based on his credentials but with the support of the warlords in the governing coalition, he is not able to fight corruption.

It seems like the PM’s main job is to win elections and remain as the PM. The PM doesn't care about corruption. The sad news is that there is no immediate recourse for the rakyat to sack a PM who fails to do a good job.

Libra: Thayaparan, you are wise to put correctly the issue at hand. We all have the power, not only Ismail Sabri.

It is at the height of stupidity that he is allowing teachers and Kemas staff to go political with immediate effect. Why is this so and for what national benefit? Well, we know what that is all about.

Anyway, each of us has the power to act. Beware - if they win and win again, more will be tempted as they see it as a case of “if we can’t beat them, join them”. And what a tragedy that would be.

Jordan Tan: The government is following the exact narrative of former PM Najib Abdul Razak in treating and reacting to Azam Baki's case.

Mohamed Apandi Ali, the former attorney-general, cleared Najib and said there is no case against him for his unexplained source of funds.

Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.

Mosquitobrain: The state apparatus can turn dumb, deaf and blind, and do what they want. They have to, to help each other in order to save their skins.

They can use strongarm tactics to keep the youths away from the streets. But the actual power is in the hands of the rakyat. The rakyat, old and young, must send a strong and clear message to these corrupted politicians.

The rakyat can start off with the coming Johor state election. Remember, Bangsa Johor, there is no place for tainted and kleptocratic politicians.

We must stay united, kick them out of office, and put all these corrupted politicians and elites in jail.
