PKR has flagged irregularities in the Election Commission (EC)'s electoral roll, ahead of the Johor state polls.
Party election director Fuziah Salleh said among the oddities found was a voter whose name was listed as "deseased" (sic) and "expired".
"I received many complaints from the data… of Pakatan Harapan parties regarding odd data as voter names," she said in a statement today.
She said her checks found the irregularities to be true. She included screenshots for the voters named "deseased' and "expired".
Checks by Malaysiakini found that one voter born in 1982 was indeed named "deceased" on the EC website.
However, the voter Fuziah captured as being named "expired" had a proper name upon further checking.
It is unclear if the data has been cleaned up.
Malaysiakini is attempting to get a response from the EC regarding the irregularities.
According to Fuziah, the roll is the gazetted list as of December 2021, and the price for purchasing the full roll was listed on Feb 7.
However, she said up till now the EC still has not supplied the electoral roll to buyers, including Harapan.
"What is the reason for this failure (to supply the electoral roll)? Is it because the data has errors or does the EC not want to supply it to the opposition?" she asked.
Fuziah, who is also the Kuantan MP, said political parties used to be given drafts of the supplementary roll for free, but that they must now be purchased.
She further claimed parties were not allowed to check the roll before it was gazetted.
When contacted, Fuziah clarified that after the supplementary roll is gazetted, the EC does provide a PDF of voter information to parties, but that there is not enough data included for checks to be done - hence necessitating the purchase of the supplementary roll.
Fuziah demanded the EC give a statement regarding the integrity of its data, and also whether the results of the Johor elections on March 12 would be affected by irregularities.
