Covid-19 (Feb 25): 30,644 new cases, 57 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 30,644 new daily Covid-19 cases was reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 3,367,871.

Active cases currently stood at 294,431, up 109.9 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (7,290)
Sabah (4,256)
Kedah (2,621)
Penang (2,531)
Johor (2,369)
Kuala Lumpur (2,081)
Kelantan (1,836)
Pahang (1,645)
Negeri Sembilan (1,589)
Perak (1,578)
Terengganu (787)
Malacca (731)
Sarawak (460)
Labuan (441)
Perlis (273)
Putrajaya (156)

Another 57 deaths attributed to Covid-19 was reported yesterday, of which 14 was declared as 'brought in dead'.

This is the highest number of deaths reported in a single day since Dec 21 last year.

Over the past week, an average of 45 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 22, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 32,591 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

The highest number of deaths was reported in Johor (14) followed by Sabah (8), Perak (6), Kedah (5), Malacca (5), Selangor (5), Pahang (3), Terengganu (3), Perlis (2), Kuala Lumpur (2), Kelantan (1), Negeri Sembilan (1), Penang (1) and Sarawak (1).

There are 7,949 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 332 are in intensive care.

Daily hospital admissions for Covid-19 patients are on a three-day downtrend. Generally, the ratio of active cases to number of people hospitalised are very small compared to the August-September period last year which was the peak of the Delta wave.

The Health Ministry has reported 214 deaths in February, up from 91 in January and 202 reported last December.
