Party president Dominic Lau (above) told reporters in Johor yesterday that all candidates had to sign a statutory declaration and a letter of resignation as an elected representative if they quit the party to join others.
"Indeed for Gerakan, our stand is clear that we do not want our MPs or assemblypersons to jump party.
"I think Gerakan leaders are fully convinced that they will not jump,” he said, according to Bernama.
Gerakan is fielding eight candidates as part of the Perikatan Nasional coalition.
Currently, the party does not have any elected representatives anywhere in the country.
There have been several Warisan state assemblypersons who have kept their seats despite signing contracts, prior to being elected, stating that they will resign as a lawmaker if they switch parties.
In November last year, Sabah legislative assembly speaker Kadzim M Yahya dismissed similar contracts, on the grounds that those who defected had withdrawn them.
