Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Zuraida Kamaruddin remains the plantation industries and commodities minister and she is expected to continue with her duties as usual unless he decides otherwise upon his return from Japan.

“For now, she can still attend (the cabinet meeting) because she has yet to resign as a minister and I have not sacked her.

“She is still a minister until she meets me. Even when she meets me, I don’t know if there will be a decision then.

“Meaning, I will decide if she stops being a minister and appoint a new minister - if I appoint a new minister. So, we don’t know yet. Until then, we continue as normal,” he told a press conference in Tokyo.

Ismail Sabri noted that many people have aired their views about Zuraida’s (above) position and he will take them into consideration.

“I respect every view. There’s (Bersatu president) Muhyiddin Yassin’s view. I see the cabinet ministers have also aired their views...

“Everyone has different views on this matter. The final decision lies with the prime minister but there has been no discussion yet.

“Wait for me to return. I will call her and we will discuss, then I will make a decision,” he said.

Last Thursday, Ampang MP Zuraida announced her resignation from Bersatu.

This put her position as a minister, which was by virtue of a Bersatu quota, into question.

Zuraida, however, did not resign but said she will discuss the matter with Ismail Sabri. She is set to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia.
