Covid-19 (July 3): 2,536 new cases, 5 new deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 2,536 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,573,891.

Active cases currently stood at 29,793, up 14.8 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (1,070)
Kuala Lumpur (538)
Perak (239)
Penang (140)
Sabah (139)
Negeri Sembilan (103)
Malacca (66)
Johor (64)
Putrajaya (59)
Sarawak (30)
Pahang (27)
Kedah (26)
Terengganu (17)
Kelantan (8)
Perlis (5)
Labuan (5)

Another five deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, none of which were declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 4.3 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 3.2, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,776 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 11 reported Covid-19 deaths so far this month. For comparison, there were 89 deaths last month and 129 deaths in May.

The deaths occurred in Johor (2), Terengganu (2) and Sarawak (1).

There are 1,221 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 45 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (132) followed by Johor (75) and Sabah (72).
