Give Klau Felda residents their money, rights back - PPIM

The Malaysian Islamic Users Organisation (PPIM) has called on the government to give Felda residents in Klau, Raub money owed to them over the construction of a dam 14 years ago.
This came after residents claimed they still have not been fully paid an estimated RM500 million over 607ha of land for Pahang-Selangor Syabas to build the Klau dam in 2008.
“Some 14 years have gone by and there has been no resolution for this issue which involves 400 families.
“Is it because they are poor and from villages that they have been hung out to dry for this long?” PPIM president Nadzim Johan said at a press conference at its premises in Villa Puteri Condominium, Kuala Lumpur today.
He urged responsible parties to settle this issue as soon as possible.
“So far, three general elections have gone by but this problem still persists.
“This is sad, especially if you consider the previous election where it was promised that this issue would be resolved,” he added.
NGO Anti-Discrimination and Misconduct Association (Samudera) representative Fakrunizam Ibrahim also called for the federal and state governments to help the residents.
“The land of these Felda residents were submerged in water, but not a single sen was given to help them.
“Even their farm produce was not allowed to be taken.
“Hence, I hope the government can at least turun padang (go to the ground) and look at this issue to try and come up with the best solution,” he said.
There were also leaders who dismissed the residents’ complaints, Fakrunizam lamented.
“There have been leaders who said that Felda residents are just making noise as they have no money.
“Thus, I request the environmental and water minister and state governments to please listen and help resolve this issue,” he added.
