Paul Yong taking a break from politics after rape conviction
Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) has approved Tronoh assemblyperson Paul Yong Choo Kiong’s request to take a break from active politics pending the conclusion of his appeal against his rape conviction.
During its meeting today, the party’s supreme council unanimously agreed to the request, said PBM information chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid.

During its meeting today, the party’s supreme council unanimously agreed to the request, said PBM information chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid.
“Yong’s treasurer-general and Perak chairperson posts will be replaced with new appointments that will be made in the near future,” he said in a statement today.
On July 27, the High Court in Ipoh found Yong guilty of raping his domestic worker in 2019.
He was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment and two strokes of the cane, but the court allowed Yong’s application for a stay of execution pending his appeal.
Meanwhile, Zakaria said PBM will hold its annual general meetings at the divisional level from July 30 to Aug 14 and at the state level from Aug 15 to Aug 29.
Meetings for its women and youth wings at the state and divisional levels will run on the same dates.
However, the annual general meeting at the party’s central level will only be determined in a future meeting.
