Anwar: PKR ready for GE15 even if it’s next month

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said today that the party is prepared to face the 15th general election even if it were to be held next month, or even next year.

This comes after rumours circulating that Parliament would be dissolved soon, following the tabling of Budget 2023 being pushed to Oct 7, three weeks earlier than initially scheduled.

Earlier, when addressing a crowd of over 3,500 party members at the party’s GE15 convention, he said the party was drawing up strategies and finding new approaches for GE15.

“This is the only party in the country where there is leadership and it is represented by two generations.

“If someone asks me, what would happen if I ‘went away’, I’d say that the party is in good hands,” he said during his address at the convention held in Shah Alam.

‘On the right track’

He told party members that they needed to be confident, and that they could not win the upcoming GE15 if they acted defensively.

“We are on the right track. The future of this country (is in) the Malays, Indians, Chinese, Kadazans (and) Ibans.

“If you are not convinced with this, we will never succeed,” he said.

Rumours of the GE15 are looming after news broke of the sudden rescheduling of the budget tabling.

It was reported on the same day that Ismail Sabri has received increasing pressure from his party to hold GE15 or be possibly sacked from Umno.

When quizzed if Anwar would throw his support behind the prime minister in the event he got sacked, the opposition leader merely wished him “good luck”.

“If Umno decides to sack the prime minister, that is their decision. Good luck to Ismail Sabri,” he told reporters.

“I have not been informed (that it would happen). We haven’t discussed this issue,” he briefly said when pressed further.
