Bentong police have denied the contents of a viral video alleging that a robbery had taken place at Genting Highlands Resort, prompting an operational shutdown earlier today.

District police chief Zaiham Mohd Kahar in a statement referred to a video in Hokkien originally posted on TikTok and viralled across social media as well as messaging applications.

"Police from the Bentong district headquarters confirm that no report was made by any party regarding the alleged incident.

"Police's investigation also confirms that no robbery as alleged in the video or audio viralled on social media and WhatsApp had taken place," he said.

Among others, it was alleged that a fire or theft had caused casino patrons to be denied entry or exit as all doors were locked.

It was further claimed that access to the cable car and all counters for hotel guests to check in were closed.

Meanwhile, Sinchew Daily quoted the resort's spokespersons explaining that the incident was caused by a false alarm in its firefighting system.

Strong winds last night had tripped the smoke detectors, which in turn triggered a fire alarm that caused its automatic shutters to close, they reportedly said.
