Wedding do: K'tan PKR Youth wants Nik Abduh probed for power abuse

Kelantan PKR Youth is urging corruption investigations against Bachok MP Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz for abuse of power after it was revealed that state agencies provided services for his two children's joint wedding reception.

Strategic director Mohd Afiq Ayob said Nik Mohamad Abduh's move to thank the agencies publicly for assisting in a "public feast" (jamuan rakyat) without revealing it was actually also his children's wedding reception was questionable.

"Was hosting a thanksgiving feast for the people (majlis bekwoh kesyukuran) a mere smokescreen to use public facilities for free and to get free services for what is actually a wedding reception for his two children?

"As an MP, he has an obligation to ensure every sen of taxpayers' funds is used with integrity and not for personal use, including for the wedding receptions of family members," he said in a statement.

Malaysiakini earlier reported that Nik Mohamad Abduh confirmed receiving assistance from the local council and other state agencies in the double wedding of his son and daughter in Kampung Pulau Melaka, Kota Bharu last Saturday.

"A thousand thanks to the police, MPKB-BRI (Kota Bharu Municipal Council - Islamic City) and the Public Works Department for accepting my request for assistance in ensuring this event and feast for the people ran smoothly, especially in terms of traffic at peak hour.

"MPKB as usual provided extra waste bins to facilitate waste management and ensure the cleanliness of the school and Masjid Tok Guru compounds," he said in a Facebook post.

The event was held at Masjid Tok Guru and Sekolah Menengah Agama (Arab) Darul Anuar.

Earlier, a letter sent by the MP to MBKB-BRI seeking various services went viral on social media.

'Far cry from Nik Aziz'

Meanwhile, Afiq said this is evidence that PAS today is a far cry from the PAS when the Bachok MP's father Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat was at the forefront.

Nik Aziz was lauded for clean governance when he was the menteri besar of Kelantan from 1990 to 2013.

"(The late Nik Aziz) always spoke of good values, always stressed on good governance and never compromised on issues of corruption, including abuse of power," Afiq said.

"We should all rise to fight corruption, not encourage or worse be part of that disgusting act.

"Does Nik Abduh at least understand his duties as an MP? He is even so bold to admit and confirm his act by making a Facebook post thanking the state agencies involved," he said.
