'Mat Kilau' named Selangor BN Youth icon – Asyraf

Selangor BN Youth has enlisted actor Mohamed Hadi Putra Halim, popularly known as Adi Putra - the star of local box office hit “Mat Kilau” - as part of its 15th general election campaign machinery.

Taking to Facebook, Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki announced Adi's appointment as Selangor BN Youth's Icon for GE15.

"Adi was unable to attend the recent BN Youth machinery launch because he was in Mecca.

"InsyaAllah, he is ready to make time to assist BN Youth ahead of GE15," said Asyraf (above, right), who is also BN Youth chief.

Singapore-born Adi was previously sighted lending support to BN during the last Johor state election.

Asyraf also said Adi had visited his office and spent time discussing both current affairs and the movie's impact on youths.

"Many things were discussed, including challenges to diversify approach to foster patriotic spirit among today's youths.

"The movie’s success was a blessing as it opened the eyes of youngsters to better understand the country's history," said Asyraf.

“Mat Kilau” is currently ranked as one of Malaysia's highest-grossing movies with a collection of over RM90 million in cinemas, although its small screen debut on streaming platform Netflix reportedly attracted more criticisms than praise.
