Muhyiddin indicates PAS will choose PN in GE15

Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin today indicated that PAS is likely to remain with the coalition in the upcoming 15th general election.

“InsyaAllah, InsyaAllah (God willing). Istiqamah (committed), we say,” he said.

The Bersatu president was speaking to reporters after chairing his party’s political bureau meeting at PN’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur earlier tonight.

This afternoon, Muhyiddin and members of the PN supreme council, with PAS represented by its deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, gathered for the coalition’s monthly meeting held at the same venue.

“We had a meeting on election preparations. When will it (general election) be held, we don’t know.

“But it (the discussion) is not new. We have discussed it several times, but today in more detail to determine several matters,” Muhyiddin said.

“First, to coordinate all machinery under PN’s name. So in the PN meeting, we agreed that all machinery at all levels will move under the PN name.

“That means the existing group of parties - Bersatu, PAS, Gerakan, SAPP, and Star. That is what we decided,” he said.

Amid speculation that PAS is deciding between partnering with PN or BN, Tuan Ibrahim, when asked to state his party’s final stand, said, “There is no issue of choosing. We are a part of PN.”

However, he said PAS is of the view that there are seats that must be negotiated in order to deny Pakatan Harapan a victory.

Malaysiakini previously reported that Umno leaders at a special briefing with party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Tuesday (Oct 4) were given the impression that PAS will side with BN.

Last month, PAS central committee member Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki reportedly claimed Umno and PAS grassroots in 27 seats have agreed to hold discussions to avoid a clash between Perikatan Nasional, BN, Harapan, and others.

“Yes, (those seats are) included. But it is still at the discussion stage (within PAS),” said Tuan Ibrahim when quizzed on the matter today.

He also repeated that PAS is a component of PN, while its “ummah unity” agenda is one that extends beyond a general election.
