Singapore now has its own 'Lee Chong Wei'
Former national badminton player Lee Chong Wei is the first Malaysian athlete to grace the halls of Madame Tussauds Singapore on Oct 13, 2022.
His wax figure will stand alongside the world’s other top athletes including football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.

Former national badminton player Lee Chong Wei is the first Malaysian athlete to grace the halls of Madame Tussauds Singapore on Oct 13, 2022.
His wax figure will stand alongside the world’s other top athletes including football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.
He was put through a six-hour sitting as the team from the wax museum took over 200 measurements of the athlete in November 2019.
Lee, once a world number one, has won several gold medals at both the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games and the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. In 2010 and 2011, he won the Yonex All England Open back-to-back, and in 2014, he won the Malaysia Open for the 10th time.
He has a record 349 weeks as the best badminton player in the world, including 199 consecutive weeks at the top. He has won 69 super series titles and served as Malaysia's Unicef goodwill ambassador.
Lee’s wax figure will be displayed in Madame Tussauds Singapore before permanently moving to Hong Kong in 2023. The wax figure dons the official jersey from his final Olympics performance in Rio 2016.
“I’m so excited to finally be able to reveal my wax figure to fans from all around the world,” said Lee.
“A lot of time and effort has been put in by the team at Madame Tussauds. They have been so meticulous at recreating me and I am so grateful for this opportunity.”
Madame Tussauds Singapore general manager Steven Chung expressed his excitement over hosting the Lee Chong Wei wax figure.
“Sports legends are extraordinary, larger-than-life individuals who have the unique ability to capture the hearts of fans and inspire the younger generation from around the world,” he said.
He said the museum is proud to be chosen as the first Madame Tussauds to display Lee Chong Wei, especially in their very own Sports 'Hall of Fame'.
There are about 26 Madame Tussauds wax museums around the world.
