Hadi never called Anwar a Freemason - PAS president's office

Abdul Hadi Awang never called Anwar Ibrahim a Freemason, said the PAS president’s office in a denial today.

They said this in response to Anwar - the Pakatan Harapan chief - reviving the issue in a ceramah (speech) yesterday.

“We are called to deny this allegation and, for the record, the PAS president has never uttered the aforementioned accusation,” Hadi’s office said in a statement today.

The issue dates back to April 2020, when it was alleged that Hadi (above) sent a letter in Arabic to Muslim leaders worldwide.

A translation of the purported letter had gone viral at the time.

In the translation, Hadi did not say that Anwar was a Freemason. Instead, it said that the move to appoint Anwar as prime minister was supported by Freemasons, along with Zionists and western powers.

Anwar, in response to the letter, denied being a Freemason, but pointed out there was someone with the same name in Canada who was a Freemason.

The issue cropped up again yesterday when Anwar was responding to Hadi’s attacks on DAP - whom the PAS president accused of being Communist.

Anwar tried to use the alleged Freemason accusation to show that Hadi’s words were not always true.

In the statement today, the PAS president’s office said the party rejects slanderous politics, empty promises, and unfounded accusations.

They also cited an Arab proverb that reads: “They hit me, but they cry. They oppress me, but they claim to be oppressed.”
