Prioritise Bersatu's crusade, Peja advises veep against drastic decisions

Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu has advised party vice-president Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen to put the party’s crusade above all else, in light of rife speculations that the latter plans to quit Bersatu.

Faizal, who appears to be in the dark on the matter, said he found out about the rumours via media reports as Rafiq has yet to contact him. 

“I’m not sure if it’s true. I have been really busy today and I have not had the time to check my phone,” he told reporters after attending the Smile programme organised by the Youth and Sports Ministry in Mini Stadium Manjoi, Ipoh, last evening (Oct 29). 

“If he were to contact me, I will advise him to focus on the members and the people, not ourselves.

“Whatever hardships that we’re facing, don’t make any drastic decisions,” he said, sending a strong message to Rafiq.

Yesterday (Oct 29), Astro Awani reported that Rafiq will be holding a presser today. 

However, the former Paya Rumput assemblyperson refused to divulge further details when asked.

“I can’t tell you what it’s about, wait for tomorrow,” he said.  

Speculations have been rife about Rafiq’s potential departure after he said that he would not be fielded to contest the Tangga Batu parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election, although the official announcement by Perikatan Nasional (PN) had not been made. 

This comes after Malacca PAS confirmed that the party will be contesting in the aforementioned seat as well as the Jasin parliamentary constituency. 

PN’s Jasin division deputy chairperson Kamarudin Sidek said that the decision had been finalised at the coalition’s presidential council meeting chaired by Muhyiddin Yassin on Thursday.

Faizal, who is also Perak PN chairperson, hinted that the state coalition will be announcing its list of candidates on either Nov 2 or 3. 

“We have made the decision, I will make the announcement when the time comes. We will announce it simultaneously. 

“We are thinking about maybe Nov 2 or 3, God willing,” he said.
