Johor PAS accepts PN's 'give and take' of four seats

Johor PAS today said it accepted Perikatan Nasional's decision to allocate the party only four out of 26 parliament seats in the state, down from 20 it contested during the last general election - when it contested solo.

State commissioner Abdullah Hussin, who is also Johor PN deputy chief, said the much-reduced number of seats was the result of “give and take” among component parties and a "normal part” of being in a coalition.

"When we're in a coalition, give and take is very normal.

"So when we give and take, there will be those that we asked for but did not get, and instead we got other seats," said Abdullah (above) during a press conference at Johor PAS headquarters in Johor Baru today.

Within Johor PN, Bersatu is contesting the bulk of 20 seats, while Gerakan gets the remaining two seats.

Quizzed whether Johor PAS is satisfied with its allocation, Abdullah said, "to quote an Arabic term, 'we listen and we obey',".

Abdullah, who will contest the Muar parliamentary seat, noted that no one decision made as part of negotiations within a coalition will be able to satisfy all parties.

"We understand that they (PN leaders) will not be able to satisfy all parties.

"So if you ask the question (on satisfaction), we accept the decision," said the former Puteri Wangsa assemblyperson.

‘First-born twins, quadruplets'

PAS had never won a federal seat in Johor and Abdullah expressed hope that GE15 could see the party's first parliamentarian from the state.

"We hope to give birth to our 'first born' and it could even be 'twins or quadruplets'," he said.

Aside from Abdullah, Johor PAS' three other candidates comprise professionals and party activists - state deputy commissioner Abdul Karim Deraman (P147 - Parit Sulong), Lt Col (R) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar (P155 -Tenggara) and Zanariyah Abdul Hamid (P149 - Sri Gading).
