Batu MCA closes operations centre in anger, disappointment

Batu MCA division has reportedly closed down its election operations centre out of anger and disappointment today, which was captured in a video that is being spread on social media.

In the short 13-second video, a group of men can be seen shouting as they tore down a blue-coloured banner from the front of a shop lot. It was shared with the caption, “More internal rebellion in BN, MCA boycotts MIC’s Batu candidate”.

BN’s candidate for Batu has been a contentious one, as the coalition chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had initially announced MIC’s A Kohilan Pillay would run for the seat.

However, one day later, MCA president Wee Ka Siong said his party would contest the seat instead, a claim which was immediately dismissed by his MIC counterpart SA Vigneswaran.

Despite that, MCA insisted they were given the seat in exchange for MIC receiving Padang Serai and subsequently announced Yew Teong Look as their candidate.

BN leadership eventually confirmed that Kohilan would remain as the coalition’s candidate for Batu.

It was reported by Sin Chew Daily that Yew and Batu MCA division chief Lim Beng Hean led about 20 people to tear down the banner and close the operations centre today.

Yew declined to reveal much, only saying that their actions today are because the division is very angry.

Meanwhile, Lim said the whole division is dissatisfied with the decision not to field an MCA candidate in Batu.

“We have no choice but to close down the operations centre. Initially, everyone still had a glimpse of hope but not anymore.

“Everyone is very disappointed. Therefore, we came here today to sort it out.

“No other choice, we have to accept the decision but we definitely won’t go campaigning or show up during nomination,” Lim stressed.
