I have big heart, will accept party's decision - Halimah

National Unity Minister Halimah Mohamed Sadique has accepted BN's decision to drop her from contesting in the forthcoming general election.

The incumbent Kota Tinggi MP said she will instead campaign for her colleagues in Umno as she has a “big heart”.

"I accept whatever decision made by the party because I am a party person," Halimah (above) said on the sidelines of an event in Kuala Lumpur today.

"I will go to the ground to help my friends who contest under BN’s ticket. The same goes for Senator Zurainah Musa (who attended the event). We have big hearts,” she added.

When asked if she will campaign for Umno vice-president Mohd Khaled Nordin who replaced her in Kota Tinggi, she replied: "He has to do it himself. He is a new candidate, so he must introduce himself to the voters.

"I don't want to talk about the constituency because that has nothing to do with me anymore," she said.

‘Sinful’ to go independent

Halimah firmly said she would not seek to retain her seat as an independent candidate.

"This is sinful and mala fide. No (I am not going to do so)," she stressed.

It was reported that 40 branch chiefs in Kota Tinggi staged a show of support for Halimah earlier this week.

She is one of 14 incumbent BN MPs dropped. Others who were removed include veterans Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (Pasir Salak), Mastura Mohd Yazid (Kuala Kangsar), Zahidi Zainul Abidin (Padang Besar), Shahidan Kassim (Arau), Annuar Musa (Ketereh), Ahmad Nazlan Idris (Jerantut), Ismail Abdul Muttalib (Maran), Dr Adham Baba (Tenggara) and Noh Omar (Tanjong Karang).

Halimah has been a BN lawmaker since 2008, serving two terms in Tenggara before being fielded in Kota Tinggi in 2018.

She served as national unity minister under both the Muhyiddin Yassin and Ismail Sabri Yaakob governments.
