‘Underdog’ Wan Fayshal believes he can offer better than BN in Machang

GE15 | Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Machang candidate Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal described him as having a slight advantage over the BN candidate with his position as a former deputy minister.

He admitted that while it is not an easy path for him in Machang as the incumbent, Kelantan BN chairperson Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, has served the local community well.

However, Wan Fayhsal said if given the opportunity, he would be able to provide better service to the Machang community.

“Since I am facing a giant, Jazlan, who is the Kelantan BN chairperson, he has already been an MP for two terms there, so I am the ‘underdog’.

“As an ‘underdog’ youth candidate, I still need to work harder to prove to voters that I can do better than Jazlan.

“He (Jazlan) is a former deputy rural development minister, I am a former deputy youth and sports minister, and deputy unity minister. 

“In terms of experience, I believe I can offer better than Jazlan,” he said in a press conference in Kota Bharu, Kelantan today.

The Machang parliamentary seat will witness a four-cornered clash between candidates from BN, PN, Pakatan Harapan, and Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra).

In the 14th general election (GE14), Jazlan won with a 2,824 majority, defeating PAS and Harapan candidates. 

Jazlan garnered 26,076 votes while PAS’ Zulkifli Mamat received 23,252 votes, leaving Harapan’s Sazmi Miah with 5,695 votes.

Meanwhile, the Bersatu youth leader said he has an advantage over Jazlan in attracting support due to this young age.

“As a young candidate, I believe I have a slight advantage over Jazlan due to my age, experience, and (time as) former youth and sports deputy minister.

“The approach I want to take is to win the hearts of young people,” he said.
