Noh Omar: Tanjung Karang was ‘stolen from me’

Without naming any party leaders, Umno's outgoing Tanjong Karang MP Noh Omar claimed that the seat was “stolen from him”.

Noh (above) said the parliamentary seat, which he had held six terms, was “taken away” while he was in the midst of identifying suitable candidates to be fielded in Selangor.

"When we were looking for candidates, I see Khairy Jamaluddin, Megat Zulkarnain Omardin and many others able to wrest Selangor.

"As I was making arrangements on the candidates' seats, apparently my own seat got 'stolen'," he lamented.

"It's okay, I accept it. I'm just sad. What's happened has happened. I won't run away from the struggle. I will stay with BN," he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.

Noh was dropped from the candidate list, alongside various other cabinet ministers including Annuar Musa and Shahidan Kassim.

The move was said to be triggered by a rift in Umno, between camps siding Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Noh was replaced by local Wanita Umno chief, Habibah Mohd Yusof.

However, party insiders reportedly said that Habibah was having a tough time campaigning with limited support from the local branches, which are disgruntled by the decision to sideline Noh.

Noh was spotted campaigning for several candidates in Selangor but he was rarely seen campaigning for Habibah.

On Nov 8, Noh explained this was because Tanjung Karang was a “white area', implying that BN is highly likely to win there.

However, Noh said today said that voters, especially young ones, are likely to favour personality over party.

"Voters now look at candidates, not parties anymore. They evaluate and study the services offered.

“If we can win in Gombak, believe me, we can win back Selangor," he said when campaigning for Megat Zulkarnain Omardin in Gombak today.
