Ramanan to give MP salary to houses of worship if elected

GE15 | Pakatan Harapan candidate for Sungai Buloh in Selangor R Ramanan has pledged to give his monthly wages to houses of worship if he wins in the 15th general election (GE15).

This was announced by a moderator at a ceramah (political speech) held in Kota Damansara yesterday.

“Ramanan has signed a declaration letter, pledging to give his MP salary to houses of worship for the use of affected groups.

“All of his salary as MP will be handed over to the worship places to mobilise welfare programmes and help the poor people,” said the moderator.

A declaration letter, signed by Ramanan on Nov 11, was displayed on the screen at the back of the stage as he spoke.

This came after PKR president Anwar Ibrahim pledged not to receive his monthly salary as Malaysians face rising prices of goods.

Ramanan also unveiled his manifesto for Sungai Buloh which focuses on reducing the burden of the bottom 40 percent of income earners (B40) group.

“I would like to present the ‘Ramanan solution’ in Sungai Buloh. (I will) focus on easing the burden of high living costs for the B40 group,” he told some 500 supporters at the ceramah.

“A database will be created by coordinating a list of qualified recipients from the Welfare Department, NGOs, and information gathered under my programme.

“For instance, we will start with a shop. Those qualified will receive a card to be used to buy basic necessities according to a fixed monthly subsidy credit,” he said.

Ramanan also pledged that his service centre will conduct a traffic flow study so that a balance can be struck between industrial development and population density in the area.

Khairy, this is not a party election

Meanwhile, he also warned his BN opponent Khairy Jamaluddin against using GE15 as a stepping stone to pursue his ambition to lead Umno.

“This is not a party election, this is a general election. Don’t bring Umno affairs into Sungai Buloh. Do not use Sungai Buloh as a platform to contest in the Umno election. It’s wrong.

“When Khairy said he wanted to cleanse Umno, he also confessed that his party is not clean. I would like to remind him that at the dirty place where he sits, he needs to clean himself,” said Ramanan.

Yesterday, Khairy confessed to having a disdain for some Umno leaders and wishes to cleanse his party should he successfully capture Sungai Buloh as BN’s candidate in this general election.

The health minister pledged to bring changes to the country, Umno, and BN so that the Malay community could have the largest political body in Malaysia that it could be proud of, if he captures Sungai Buloh.

In another development, Ramanan also announced that Anwar will arrive in Sungai Buloh to campaign for him on Wednesday (Nov 16).
