S'wak govt hopes new regime will grant autonomy on health, education

The Sarawak government has expressed hope that its territory will be granted autonomy from Putrajaya on matters of health and education.

State Deputy Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister I Annuar Rapaee told the Sarawak legislative assembly yesterday that this was in line with Item 33 of Pakatan Harapan's general election manifesto.

"Autonomy for our education matters has been mentioned numerous times, even before the formation of the new (federal) unity government.

"We're grateful that this new government is formed in line with the second principle of the Rukun Negara, which is 'loyalty to the king and country', in that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has been together to form this government for the benefit of the rakyat," he said.

Annuar (GPS-Nangka) was responding to a question from Fazzruddin Abdul Rahman (GPS-Tupong), according to Borneo Post.

GPS is the third biggest partner coalition in the new unity government.

Harapan had promised to amend the ninth schedule of the Federal Constitution to "strengthen the role of the regional government in the field of education and health" in Sabah and Sarawak.
