Cuepacs wants Anwar to maintain goodies promised by ex-PM

Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to maintain goodies for civil servants promised by his predecessor.

This includes several special cash rewards such as RM100 increment, a cash handout of RM700 for civil servants, RM350 for retirees and RM600 special Hari Raya handout.

These measures were announced by then finance minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz on Nov 7 in his Budget 2023 speech.

Cuepacs president Adnan Mat said these measures should not be reviewed just because the government has changed.

"Cuepacs does not want what happened in 2018 to happen again, where initiatives promised by the government then were not fulfilled after a change of government," he said.

Adnan (above) argued that as an employer, the federal government cannot withdraw these initiatives because the civil servants have sacrificed for the country.

The Anwar administration will table a "mini-budget" on Dec 19 in Parliament to ensure that civil service wages are paid next year.

A proper budget for the federal government is expected to be tabled several weeks later.
