A 27-year-old civil servant has been arrested for allegedly stealing the belongings of the recent Batang Kali landslide victims.
Selangor acting police chief S Sasikala Devi said the suspect was arrested in the Klang Valley area yesterday.
"We also seized items believed to belong to the victims during the arrest," she was quoted as saying by The Star today.
The police will apply for a remand order on the suspect, she said.
On Jan 2, Hulu Selangor police chief Suffian Abdullah said the police were investigating an allegation on Facebook regarding irresponsible individuals using items belonging to a victim of the Father's Organic Farm landslide tragedy.
The message was believed to have been uploaded by a victim’s family member.
The case was being probed under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
The landslide incident at the campsite which occurred at 2.46am on Dec 16 claimed 31 lives, with 12 of them being children and a one-year-old baby boy. A total of 61 victims survived the tragedy.
