Wan Saiful claims he's victim of selective prosecution

Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan expressed regret over the two charges of soliciting and accepting RM6.9 million in bribes against him, saying the charges should not have been filed.

"Alhamdulillah, the (prosecution) process is finished today.

"I have pleaded not guilty and asked for a hearing and I am confident that the court process can prove that no offence was committed," the Tasek Gelugor MP (above) told reporters after paying his bail at the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex today.

Commenting further, Wan Saiful, 48, said he regretted the government's actions, which he deemed to be selective prosecution aimed at diverting attention from the failure of the unity government.

"I am a little sorry for the current situation as (the government) should focus on the welfare of the people on the cost of living, the soaring basic needs and the targeted demands of the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF), which are voiced at many levels.

"But, what happened (the government) did such a thing (prosecuting me) to divert attention from the government's failure?

"Failure to come up with new ideas, ideas for solutions to people's problems and failing to act on cases that should not have happened," he said.

Wan Saiful added that he would not be intimidated and was ready to prove that he is innocent.

"We will prove it through the court process and I am confident that our court is fair.

"I will also make sure that freedom in court will prove that I did not do anything wrong," he stressed.
