PM: Another RM50m allocated for Johor flood aid

Putrajaya is channelling RM50 million to Johor in light of the ongoing floods in the state.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the allocation was decided after floods in Johor worsened overnight.

“RM50 million (aid to be) immediately (given) to Johor, (as) help for river management and flood victims, and any urgent developments.

“A few ministers are also expected to go to Johor today and tomorrow. 

“I will also arrange (to head to the flood site) in the nearest time,” he said when met by reporters at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Mosque. 

Yesterday, RM10 million was channelled to the National Disaster Management Agency to buy essential goods and additional aid for flood-affected victims in Johor. 

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the immediate allocation was to ensure that all equipment at temporary evacuation centres was sufficient, especially as the number of victims continues to increase.

According to the Info Bencana website, Johor was the state worst hit by floods. As of 3.43pm today, the state had 32,120 evacuees, involving 9,063 families. 

Other states affected by floods include Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Sabah, and Malacca.
