A local Shia religious leader is set to be charged at the Syariah Court on Thursday in relation to a religious event held nearly four years ago in Gombak, Selangor.

Mohd Kamil Zuhairi Abd Aziz confirmed with Malaysiakini that he has been summoned to the religious court to be charged in relation to a gathering to commemorate the Battle of Karbala ahead of Ashura Day, which fell on Sept 9, 2019.
