Zahid reassures Hajiji to stay as Sabah CM until end of term

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reassured that there will be no attempts to trigger any political changes in Sabah with Chief Minister Hajiji Noor promising to remain in office until the end of the term in 2025.
Harian Metro quoted Zahid, who is also the BN chairperson, as saying that the coalition government at the federal level and in Sabah has established strong ties which must be preserved.
“We’re in a phase or situation where we wish to continue creating a calm situation between various parties in Sabah.
“For Umno, I told my friends from Umno and BN in Sabah to not do anything that can hurt the feelings of any other parties,” said the Umno president after a Ramadan function in Papar, Sabah earlier today.
“There are several solutions being worked on. We are looking for the best way so that the existing government can be retained until the next state election,” said Zahid.
He also expressed hope that there will be no changes among individuals currently appointed to various positions in state-linked companies, local councils, or as village chiefs.
Hajiji (above), currently president of Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), was appointed chief minister after the Sabah state election in 2020.
At the time, he was still a Bersatu member and the state government was formed together with BN, until after the 15th general election.
In January, the Sabah government under Hajiji underwent a brief period of instability after Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin withdrew BN’s support for the state government.
Also withdrawing support were three assemblypersons from Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) including its president Peter Anthony, the Melalap representative.
At the time, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim suggested the creation of a unity government in Sabah as a solution to the political impasse.
