PM's Raya open house in PAS territory

For the first time in history, the prime minister's Aidilfitri open house will be moved out of the Klang Valley.

In a statement today, the Prime Minister’s Department said the events will be held in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu - all PAS-controlled states.

Kedah will host the national-level event on April 29 at Hotel Raia, Alor Setar, from 10am to 2pm.

This will be followed by the second leg at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Bharu on May 12, which will kick off at 7pm.

The following day will see the third leg at the Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Kuala Terengganu, also at night.

According to the Prime Minister’s Department, similar events will be held in Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan. However, dates have not been announced.

All events are being coordinated by the Prime Minister’s Department's Performance and Coordination Unit (Pacu). State governments will be hosting the events and supported by a federal ministry.

The Home Ministry will be aiding the Kedah event while the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry and the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will assist the Kelantan and Terengganu leg respectively.

"This programme will be attended by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who will be with (the people) from all walks of life expected at the event. The chief minister or menteri besar will be invited, as well as cabinet ministers.

"The Kedah leg will be the national-level event with an expected 25,000 visitors. The target for other states is 15,000," said the Prime Minister’s Department.

Previous prime ministers Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Najib Abdul Razak, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had previously held the national-level Aidilfitri open house in Seri Perdana, Putrajaya.

Prior to this, the Abdullah and Mahathir administrations held such events at the Putra World Trade Center.
