Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin may contest in one of the state seats under the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency, should he accept Bersatu's offer to join the party before the upcoming state election.

Utusan Malaysia spoke to a senior Selangor PAS leader who said that Khairy's name, although not listed in PAS' list for the state elections, may be included under Bersatu's.

"We (Perikatan Nasional) accept the participation of outsiders to represent the coalition and lead it to victory.

"In fact, if there is a directive from the central leadership to pull an 'outsider' to contest and lead us to victory, we have no problem with that," the leader reportedly told Utusan.

It was earlier reported that Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin had offered Khairy (above) a candidacy in the upcoming state polls if the latter decides to join Bersatu.

According to Bersatu information chief Razali Idris, the offer was made when the former health minister visited Muhyiddin’s house after being sacked from Umno.

Khairy, however, has not responded to the offer and has asked for some time to make a decision.

There are two state seats under the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency - Kota Damansara and Paya Jaras.

In the 15th general election, Khairy contested the parliamentary seat on behalf of BN but lost to Pakatan Harapan's R Ramanan by 2,693 votes.

Yesterday, Utusan reported that PN might bank on the "aura" of yet another former Umno leader, Arau MP Shahidan Kassim, in its bid to win Selangor.

The veteran politician is reportedly eyeing the Semenyih state seat, which has a 60 percent Malay electorate.

Shahidan had said that he is willing to contest anywhere, as long as it is blessed by the PN leadership.
