DAP has urged all parties within the unity government to put aside differences and focus on commonalities to build a better Malaysia.

DAP Women chief Chong Eng (above), said the Unity Government Convention created history when she set foot at the World Trade Centre (WTC), which is synonymous with Umno, for the first time.

While at loggerheads for decades, both Umno and DAP are now sharing a common stage for the country’s sake.

"Let’s cast aside our differences and focus on similarities. Accept people of different races.

"This is a day in history, very meaningful history on this Mother’s Day.

"This is the building (WTC) I just entered this morning. We used to be opponents, now we are friends for a better Malaysia," she said when speaking at the Unity Government Women's Convention at the WTC, Kuala Lumpur today.

The 2023 Unity Government Convention was held for the first time after Pakatan Harapan formed a partnership with BN, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Warisan, and several other parties to form a broad coalition government.

The convention was held to foster unity among leaders and politicians who are the backbone of the government.

In the meantime, PKR Women chief Fadhlina Sidek urged the delegates present at the convention to relay information to their respective communities so that they understand the goals of the unity government.

She said it was important that the unity government’s agenda is understood in order to achieve success in the upcoming six states election.

Meanwhile, the head of Wanita Warisan, Norfaizah Chua wants more focus given to Sabah so that it does not fall further behind.

"It is the dream of every Sabahan who wants the region to continue being prioritised in terms of development so that it is not left out," she said.

Norfaizah also voiced support for the agenda to uplift women’s role - both in government and politics.
