At unity convention, PKR Youth chief sees end to decades of political rivalry

PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim has called for an end to decades of political rivalry as youth wing leaders from all parties in government gathered today for their first national-level convention.

The deputy youth and sports minister noted there are many differences among them which must be managed and all youth leaders have a duty to come together beyond just strengthening their own positions in power. 

“This is not an ordinary gathering. I have repeatedly said this gathering is not only for us to justify the formation of this government.

“This is a point where we state and realise our cooperation, agreement, and our readiness to build a better nation,” he said as a panellist at a discussion titled “Politics as a Vessel for Youths in Nation Building”.

“This is a joint effort for us to build this nation together. 

“Decades of political rivalry, we will put an end to it today. Insya Allah,” Adam (above, standing) said.

He noted there were unseen political changes after the 15th general election and parties in the government today will not be together unless they have a common vision for the country.

“But when we are sitting together today, what is most required is tolerance. And it cannot be fake but with a sincere heart.

“Many who came today are from the grassroots and it is their first time meeting each other,” said Adam, noting that the situation was unlike those in leadership positions with more options to engage with one another.

As such, he expressed hope that the gathering today will be the start of a clearer vision for the country and restore faith among youths toward politics.

Hundreds of youth wing leaders and members from all parties in government gathered at Dewan Tun Dr Ismail, WTCKL, for the Unity Youth Convention 2023, held alongside the Unity Women Convention 2023 for all women’s wings leaders.

Aside from Adam, the first of three panels also featured Puteri Umno chief Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi, Amanah Youth chief Senator Mohd Hasbi Muda, and PBRS Youth chief Edwin Laimin. 

Also in attendance was Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof.
