Kelantan Police : 312 held, drugs worth over RM29,000 seized

Kelantan police seized drugs worth RM297,776.10 in operations under Op Tapis, conducted statewide from Friday (May 12) until yesterday.

State police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said 312 individuals, aged 14 to 68, comprising 303 men and nine women, were arrested during the operations.

He said among the drugs seized were heroin (23.45 grammes), ganja (2.25 grammes), yaba pill powder (10.99 grammes), psychotropic pills (125 pills), codeine (3.2 litres), syabu (24.68 grammes), ketum leaves (4.7 kilogrammes), ketum water (426.1 litres) and yaba pills (27,748 tablets).

“The operations also recorded eight arrests under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952.

“The highest are cases under Section 15(1)(a) ADB 1952, which recorded 115 arrests,” he said in a statement today.

Zaki said the drugs seized in the operation were estimated to could have been used by a total of 28,966 drug addicts.

He said 21 hardcore or repeat drug addicts were also charged under Section 39C of the ADB 1952 during the operations.

“Action was also taken under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988, where property was seized, namely cash, money in accounts and vehicles, worth RM83,164.46.

“This success is the result of continuous action involving all the district police headquarters (IPD) and the community's cooperation.

“The Kelantan police contingent, especially the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), will continue to work to combat drug abuse and drug trafficking activities in the state," he said.

He urged the people to continue to channel information related to drug trafficking activities via the NCID hotline at 012-208 7222.
