Johor Bersatu leader: Time for unhappy Umno members to join PN

A Johor Bersatu leader has invited Umno members unhappy with the party under its president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to join Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Johor PN vice-chief Mohd Solihan Badri said they could then continue the struggle to uphold Islam and the future of Malay-Bumiputeras, which he claimed Umno had deviated from in its current status as part of the federal government.

“Those who were sacked or had their memberships suspended for objecting to Umno’s cooperation with Pakatan Harapan, they don’t need to wait for the state elections to take action.

“Instead, they can continue their struggle on the PN platform that has now emerged as an ‘umbrella’ for the Malays,” he said in a statement today.

Solihan (above) noted there were some among the Johor Umno leadership who were critical of Zahid, including on the decision to be a part of the “Madani government”. Zahid is now a deputy prime minister.

He said those voices should not be silent after they were sacked or suspended from the party.

Further, the former Tenang state assemblyperson cited the latest reported instruction by Umno supreme council member Ahmad Maslan for Umno members to support DAP candidates in the upcoming six state polls.

“This directly proves how Zahid has once again gone against Umno’s oath and principles, as well as betrayed the mandate by party members and supporters.

“Therefore, Umno leaders and members as a whole should put a stop to Zahid’s antics that had made many black marks in the party’s history and sacrificed dignity in modern-day Malay politics,” said Solihan.

He claimed that those who remain with Umno should feel guilty for contributing to the ongoing destruction and failure to champion the Malay agenda.

Earlier today, Johor DAP vice-chairperson Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali reminded Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin of how the former prime minister urged voters to support DAP in the 2018 general election when he was a part of Pakatan Harapan.

Sheikh Umar responded to Muhyiddin’s recent statement that it was “unusual” for an Umno leader to ask party members to support DAP by saying the PN chairperson made a similar call in the past.
