Veteran media videographer killed in Bentong crash

Veteran media videographer Khairul Azman Zainuddin was killed in a motorcycle accident in Bentong, Pahang on Sunday when he was travelling to Kuala Lumpur.

Khairul, 45, who was attached to Channel News Asia's Kuala Lumpur Bureau, reportedly was on his way to fetch his wife from the airport after visiting his parents in Kuantan when he lost control of the vehicle.

According to Bentong district police chief Zaiham Mohd Kahar, the noon incident saw Khairul's motorcycle crashing into a road divider at KM43 of the Karak-Kuala Lumpur Highway, causing the victim to be thrown off the vehicle to the opposite lane.

"When this happened, another motorcyclist that was travelling towards Bentong could not avoid the victim and crashed into him.

"Khairul sustained serious injuries to the head and died on the spot, while the other motorcyclist and pillion rider sustained minor injuries," Zaiham said in a statement.

It was learned that his body was taken back to his hometown in Kuantan for burial.

Khairul, who left behind a wife, had been working for CNA for the past five years, according to the Singapore-based media agency.

He had previously worked for the NTV7 news channel as a video editor, among others.

Khairul had been described by his colleagues in CNA as someone whom they regarded as a "big brother".

"He taught us new things, took care of everyone ... I’ve learnt so much from him and it’s been an absolute privilege to have worked so closely with him," Afifah Arifin, a CNA correspondent in the KL bureau, was quoted as saying.

He would always be remembered as someone who was "always so kind, calm and capable", said CNA KL bureau chief Melissa Goh.
