Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan has welcomed Umno Youth’s call for DAP to apologise to the party.

As a government party, he said DAP should be magnanimous and accept the demand.

“The proposal (by Umno Youth) is good. For me, if DAP is magnanimous, they can apologise to Umno.

“If they can apologise to (Gabungan Parti Sarawak; GPS), it would be even better if they apologise to Umno.

“We will work together in one government, and DAP must be magnanimous," he told reporters after attending the Umno supreme council meeting at Menara Dato Onn, Kuala Lumpur, tonight.

He said this when asked about the demand made by Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh during his policy speech at the Umno general assembly at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre this morning.

Akmal stated that the allegations previously hurled by DAP at Umno have hurt the hearts of all party members.

Therefore, in his speech, Akmal demanded that DAP openly apologise to Umno if they want to soften their hearts.

He said that if DAP can make an open apology to the GPS previously, why not apologise to Umno?

However, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today said that DAP is a partner in the unity government and does not need to apologise to the party.

Zahid said the matter had been resolved during discussions on the formation of the federal government and should not be raised again.
